For employers
Roaming Wellness™
An evidence-based, accredited resilience programme that reduces burnout by meeting healthcare workers on their own unit, in the middle of their own shift.
Care that comes to the floor
Roaming Wellness™ is an evidence-based, accredited resilience programme designed to reduce burnout by educating healthcare workers in three key areas of engagement: social and emotional, behavioural, and cognitive. The results are improved performance, workplace satisfaction, and enhanced retention.
Health Coaches and integrative therapists travel to the floors of the hospital to engage nurses and healthcare workers on their unit, meeting them where they are. Presence is weekly, and it is meant to cover all shifts: brief, usable takeaways in small steps, not a seminar nobody can leave the floor to attend.
How it works
You do not start with the whole hospital. You start with the departments that are already struggling.
Find the units
Identify the low-engagement departments. That is whose floors the coaches walk first.
Plan with the lead
Work with the department lead on what the unit can actually absorb: when coaches come, which shifts, what counts as a visit.
Twelve weeks on the unit
A 12-week on-unit resilience programme. Coaches stay on the floor. Massage and acupuncture can come with them.
ICU and NICU, spring 2023
At P/SL-RMHC, Roaming Wellness ran on the ICU and NICU: 200 staff. Over 10 weeks of direct service this is what was counted.
- 144.5Hours on the units
- Direct services on the ICU and NICU over those 10 weeks, not hours booked in a classroom off the floor.
- 425+Nurse touch points
- Contacts with health coaches. Short, on-shift, and repeated, which is the design.
- 82Nurses received massage
- On their own unit, not in a spa appointment they would have had to leave the floor to keep.
- 32Nurses received acupuncture
- Also on the unit, during the same stretch of work.
From a unit director
“I think staff have been offered the opportunity that it is ok to take a break and it makes them more effective. That it’s ok to have a balance, they need to know it’s ok to step away and take a break during work time to take time for themselves so they can be better. They learned more about themselves and that they can use more balance in their personal lives. It makes them better. It gave them positivity.”

Programme services
Most of these take between five and ten minutes, which is the point. They are built to fit inside a shift rather than alongside it.
